Who is involved in CPAL?

The core research team comprises (in the photo from left to right) Professor John Gardner, Debie Galanouli, Professor Peter Clough, Dr Ruth Leitch (Principal Investigator) and Laura Lundy.

Laura is the children's rights expert while Ruth's research interests lie in pupil voice and teacher identity. John is an assessment expert; Peter's research interests
include narrative methodology and teacher voice; Debie, who was the project's research assistant until May 2006, previously conducted research in the areas of innovation in education and teachers' professional development. Recent additions to the team are Dr Oscar Odena, Research Fellow, and Dr Stephanie Mitchell, researcher with experience on children's rights, pupil voice and image-based methods.

CPAL also involves the active participation of colleagues from the five Northern Ireland Education and Library Boards, the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment and colleagues from St Mary’s and Stranmillis University Colleges, the University of Ulster and the Open University.

Professor Mary James (TLRP, Institute of Education) is the project's critical friend and Professors Richard Daugherty (University of Wales at Aberystwyth) and Jannette Elwood (Queen's) are CPAL's consultants in assessment. Dr Patrick Carmichael (CARET, University of Cambridge) supports the project's virtual research environment.
